Last Farm in the USA

As you know, 2020 has looked different for all of us. We’ve certainly missed seeing our fans across the country, but there have definitely been some really special moments that have come out of the quarantine.

Meredith and I had an amazing garden this year and have really enjoyed nights around our fire pit—things you never get to do while on the road. I’ve also had the time to really focus on songwriting without the pressure of booking shows to interfere with the creative process.

It might surprise you to know that my first major in college was Ag Business. I’ve always had respect for the hard work and dedication of our farmers. One day while just having a conversation with my manager, I had an idea hit me and I immediately got ahold of one of my best co-writers to bring this idea to life.

Within a few days, “Last Farm in the USA” had what we felt like was a very strong first verse and chorus. My co-writer, Dan Rivers, and I scheduled Skype calls as often as we could and even worked on the song on our own until we felt very confident in our final product. I made a very simple recording on my cell phone and sent it to my manager not really knowing what to expect, just letting him know what I had been up to. Little did I know that this song would become my next single and the name of 2021’s tour schedule.

Continuing to feel inspired, Dan and I kept writing. Soon we had another finished song, “Small Town” and we realized that we had several songs with a common theme and the beginnings of a new album.

I’ve been very honored to have Doug Sisemore, Reba’s long time keyboard player and band leader, as my producer for the last several years. Doug and I often have a shared vision on what instrumentation and production we hear on a song. It is an amazing thing to be in the studio with him and the guys to hear them bring one of my songs to life.

Due to the cancellation of most of our shows this year we have not been able to put money into our studio fund. As you can imagine, it is very expensive to record with some of the best of the best studio musicians in Nashville.

With your generosity, we will be able to record radio quality songs to support our 2021 touring and in turn we will be offering exciting rewards that have never been offered before!
